Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie rumored to have inquired about adopting Pinoy child

Hollywood power couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have supposedly inquired about adopting a Filipino child from the Hospicio de San Jose in Manila, Manila Standard Today columnist Harold Geronimo Tweeted last month. "It was just an inquiry of adoption process, etc. according to sources (at) Hospicio. No concrete final details yet."

According to Manila Bulletin, Geronimo is not the official spokesperson of the orphanage but he said he has participated in their outreach programs. He claimed he was told that all adoption inquiries made to the orphanage are confidential.

In February, Pitt and Jolie were rumored to have been in the process of adopting a four-year-old Haitian orphan named Leah, reports Reuters. A spokesman for the actress denied this last month. "Ms. Jolie is focused on enhancing the welfare and legal protection of children within Haiti. As such, she has been meeting with Haiti (government) officials, Haitian legal experts and non-governmental organizations regarding a new initiative of the Jolie-Pitt Foundation. The recently launched Jolie Legal Fellows Program will assist the justice system in Haiti to improve child protection."

In 2009, the couple dubbed Brangelina was also rumored to have flown to Manila on a chartered plane to try to adopt a Filipino child, reports Manila Bulletin.

Pitt and Jolie are parents to three adopted children (Maddox, Pax and Zahara) and three biological children (Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne).

A Repost From Glenda Villena For Yahoo! Southeast Asia

Thia Megia enters 'American Idol' Final 13

By Glenda Villena, For Yahoo! Southeast Asia Thursday March 3, 2011 09:28 pm PST

Filipino-American Thia Megia has secured a spot in the "American Idol" Season 10 finals.

Thia was among the top 10 finalists the US audience voted to stay in the competition. The judges, Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, chose three of the thirteen finalists to remain.

The 15-year-old singer from Mountain House, California, captivated the judges with her rendition of Irene Cara's 1980 hit, "Out Here on My Own."

Steven said, "Sometimes a person's pitch can be so perfect, it doesn't matter what song they sing, and you just did that. I can't believe you're 15."

Jennifer added, "It was just so beautiful, it was a quiet moment in the middle of all these very big performances to come out there, stand still, sing with no music in the beginning and just captivate every single person in this room was really really special."

Finally Randy's comparison of Thia to the great Michael Jackson was jaw dropping.

"It's been said and it is definitely true that the mark of a great singer, (and) this is a singing competition, is the quality of the tone of the voice. You're tone, when we first heard it, reminded me so much of the late great Michael Jackson that I love. It's infectious in the first note you sang. So it doesn't matter what age you are. This is what hot singing is about."

Millions of "American Idol" viewers agreed with the judges' remarks by voting Thia to advance.

Thia, along with Casey Abrams, of Idyllwild, Calif., Haley Reinhard of Milwaukee, Jacob Lusk, of Compton, Calif., James Durbin of Santa Cruz, Calif., Karen Rodriguez, of New York City, Lauren Alaina, of Rossville, Ga., Paul McDonald, of Huntsville, AL., Pia Toscano, of Howard Beach, N.Y., and Scotty McCreery of Garner, N.C., made it to the next stage.

The judges voted three wild card entries, Ashthon Jones of Nashville, Naima Adedapo, of Milwaukee and Stefano Langone, of Kent, Wash. to also further compete in the finals.

The other Filipino American, Jun "Clint" Gamboa, who also made it to the top 24 American Idol hopefuls didn't make it to the final 13.

Illac Diaz refutes Giselle Sanchez's column item saying he's involved in a "love triangle" with Julia Clarete and Angelica Jones

Illac Diaz refutes Giselle Sanchez's column item saying he's involved in a "love triangle" with Julia Clarete and Angelica Jones
Slideshow: Showbiz Photos

"I can imagine multi-awarded consultant and debonaire Illac Diaz to be saying this if he had a magic mirror: Mirror, Mirror on the wall? Who's the fairest between the two? The black beauty of "Eat Bulaga" Julia Clarete? Or the white Leghorn board member of Laguna, Angelika Jones Alarva?

"According to my deep penetration agent in San Pablo City, Julia Clarete was reportedly seen storming the San Pablo parish while the churchgoers were coming out from mass.

"Her snitches were right when Julia saw Angelika Jones and Young Global Leader awardee Illac Diaz coming out from church. Her feelings were finally settled to peace when Illac explained that he was just accompanying Angelika to church because it was her birthday.

"It would be rude of him not to do so since the two were partners in a plastic bottle classroom project in barangay San Jose, San Pablo City. So, why, oh why was Julia so green with jealousy she had to travel for three hours from Manila just to catch the two coming out of a church (and they weren't even getting married!)

"Actress turned politician Angelika explains why, 'Before Illac offered his free consultancy services to be my partner in building this public classroom entirely from plastic bottles, Illac and I were dating exclusively. When we started the project, we decided to stop dating so that we could focus all our energies in building and finishing this project. That was the time he started to date Julia and he told me about it. I was also pretty shocked to see Julia in church on my birthday and she did not seem so happy to see me and Illac together.'

"I guess Julia doesn't have to be afraid anymore. After all, it seems that the relationship of Illac and Angelika is purely business after all. In fact the two are often seen brainstorming for more projects together in the hot jacuzzis of the Laguna springs."

ILLAC REACTS.

"It's a lie! It's a lie!" mariing sinabi ni Illac, isang businessman at philanthropist.

"The only thing that's not a lie is, you know, that we're building a bottle school in Laguna for the benefit of the Children of Barangay Malamig. And it's very successful, now nearing completion," banggit ni Illac.

Ayon pa sa kanya, ang "damaging column" ay,"for us, a distraction on what we're trying to do and we don't know from which quarter it came."

"Yun pa, there was no dating!" pagtutol ni Illac. "And we even went daw to the jacuzzis?!"

"None of these happened," sabi ni Illac. "The thing is, names were mentioned without any respect [for the concerned individuals]!

"I suppose, any decent reporter, or those who cover the entertainment beat, should give their subjects the benefit of the doubt in such sensitive issues.

"But Giselle Sanchez never spoke to Julia first! She knows Julia. She knows me. She knows how we can be contacted before she wrote her piece.

"Feeling ko, in-assassinate kami ng sniper, e. Basta lang tinira kami nang walang laban. That's wrong!"

But since it was a mere "gossip" column, Illac thought, "Giselle actually feels that she is not answerable to anybody and can instigate this kind of thing, no matter how damaging it could be."

MESSAGES FROM GISELLE.

Sabi ni Giselle: "I'm just going in to give a talk. U may call me at [number] or better, email me everything u want me to write at [email address] so there's no dagdag-bawas when u see it in my column. u have the right to air ur side. it's called the right to fair comment.:) if you still need to speak with me, call me at..."

"Sabi ko," patuloy ni Illac, "'So, that story is changing already. You see, the story has already changed the second time you talked to me.

"You're the writer, you published it, and you're changing it through a mere phone call? Didn't you have any consideration before even writing it?

MESSAGES FROM ANGELICA. When confronted, dahil siya ang na-quote ni Giselle as allegedly having "exclusively dated" Illac before he went steady with Julia, nagalit naman si Angelica. Dinenay nito ang isinulat ni Giselle.

Ito naman ang nilalaman ng text message ni Angelica kay Illac, which he shared with PEP: "Ha? What are you talking about? Wala 'ko pina-ra-write up about u.

"Pls. Lang nanahimik ako pwede ba. Wala nga ako pakialam sa buhay nyo. Pls. Lang wag mo ko pagbibintangan. Kayo mag usap ni Giselle."

Ang text message naman ni Angelica kay Giselle: "Sis, pls. clear my name to Illac.

"Wala akong sinasabing ganun.

Pls. Stop pagbintangan ako!"

At may follow-up text message naman si Giselle kay Illac, patungkol kay Angelica: "Angelika is in panic mode. I hope u go easy on her. maybe just finish the project with her so that u won't gain enemies. u would gain an even better reputation if u finish what u started inspite of all the drama. sakit mo raw magsalita. just still be the gentleman that u always are."

REACTION FROM GLORIA DIAZ. "I've been consulting [people] and everybody says, reckless talaga," sabi ni Illac tungkol sa pagkakasulat ng column ni Giselle.

Kabilang daw sa mga nag-react, in sympathy with Illac and Julia, ay sina Gloria Diaz, na auntie ni Illac, at ng pinsan niyang si Robin Da Roza, also a former actor like Illac.

Kahapon, March 1, may latest information na nabanggit din si Illac sa PEP: "I just found out that Angelica paid Giselle to be an entertainer during her week-long birthday in Laguna. Then the article came out [on February 22].

"It could be why Giselle was so careless, as it was pay back for the concert and hosting gig. So she was not neutral as a journalist..."

"Reckless!" ang salitang ginamit ni 1969 Miss Universe Gloria Diaz.

LEGAL ACTION.

"We don't know at this point, e. We're looking at all angles," sagot ni Illac.

"What we know is that it was done out of pure malice, that she [Giselle] was so enamoured by the gossip thing that she thought it was the right thing to do, at other people's expense.

"Julia and I both believe nobody knew about this controversy except Giselle, and it existed in a convoluted world of showbiz gimmickry that me and Julia should not be involved, in the first place.

"My Shelter Foundation is very professional. We're recognized around the world for our projects. We're a pioneer when it comes to alternative construction."

DAMAGE DONE. At day's end, no amount of apology or retraction from the gossip columnist could appease Illac.

"It's the irresponsibility... journalistic abuse that's damaging. That's why I'm speaking out... also for the sake of the foundation," sabi pa ni Illac.

"I have my own life now, separate from show business. And I deal with volunteers and donors who could attest to my being morally upright.

"Also, most importantly, for Julia, for the woman she is. She's now a mother, and she's got nothing to do with it, except, you know, love and support me."

"Many times, Julia stood up for me," sabi ng boyfriend ng aktres, "and she needs to be defended. Her honor needs to be shielded from these kinds of attacks."

1974 Miss Universe and Spanish actress Amparo Muñoz dies at 56

Amparo Muñoz declared Miss Universe in 1974

Miss Universe 1974 Amparo Muñoz, who was crowned in the Philippines when the international beauty pageant was held here, has died after a "long illness" at her home in Malaga, Spain, reports Typically Spanish. She was 56 years old.

The actress was the first Miss Spain to be crowned Miss Universe but she renounced the title six months later due to discrepancies with the organizers, reports Typically Spanish. After winning the pageant, she returned to the Philippines to shoot the movie Hayop sa Ganda with 1969 Miss Universe Gloria Diaz, according to Ricky Lo of The Philippine Star. However, she "went home in a huff after she clashed with a producer-talent-scout with whom she swapped court charges."

More than a decade ago, Muñoz was rumored to have died from AIDS, according to Lo's column in 2006. That year, Lo wrote that Muñoz told Spanish newspaper Cronica that she suffered from a cerebral disease, not AIDS, a few years ago.

Lo quoted Muñoz, "I got sick the same day my Papa died of pulmonary infection... I was devastated by his death because I wasn't able to ask forgiveness from him for everything that I did. At first, I felt little symptoms. I would get dizzy when tying my shoes."

She added, "So I consulted a doctor and at first he told me, 'I'm afraid that you have cancer of the brain.' Soon, I was vomiting and feeling tremors. I was checked again by my doctor who found an abnormal growth in my cerebellum. So I underwent chemotherapy."

Slideshow: Showbiz Photos

Ayon kay Kris, "All's well that ends well. I mean, effort yung ginawa ni Ruffa to be here tonight and I'm so appreciative of that effort."

Sabi naman ni Ruffa, "Umiyak-iyak ako kanina. Hindi naman talaga kami nakapag-usap since that incident.

Ani Kris, "Kasi, we've known each other since we were kids.

Aniya, "You know, Kris, you have no mean bone in your body."

Sabi ni Kris, "'Eto, walang halong kaplastikan or pagpapa-cute or whatever, kasi Ruffing, siguro, we're at our point in our lives that the past is behind us, okay, and present, and we can look forward to the future. "

They went to me and yumakap talaga.

"I was saying, it was so much fun na nagho-host with Ai-Ai there.

After their hosting stint at the 25th celebration of the Edsa People Power, parehong nag-post sina Kris at Ruffa sa Twitter ng kanilang kasiyahan sa pagkikita at tuluyan na nilang pagkakaayos.

Jim Paredes and Gringo Honasan in heated Twitter exchange about EDSA 1

Earlier today, singer-songwriter Jim Paredes and Senator Gringo Honasan had a heated exchange via Twitter, reports Newsbreak. The two People Power personalities were "Twitterviewees" (interviewees on Twitter) of Newsbreak's Twitter discussion on the EDSA legacy with the hashtag #TweetConPH.

Contributing to the #TweetConPH discussion, Paredes posted, "Major players in EDSA came for various reasons. Gringo, Enrile, RAM (Reform the Armed Forces Movement) had an agenda different from the millions who were there... They joinde EDSA to save their assess against Marcos..When it was safe again, they launched their coups."

In response, Honasan Tweeted, "@jimparedes Until U have faced the business end of a gun as a soldier, for God,country & family HERE, U know nothing. I didn't go abroad." Honasan, who was among those who led a coup attempt in the '80s against then President Ferdinand Marcos, was referring to Paredes' move to Australia in 2006. The former Apo Hiking Society member now shuttles between the Philippines and Australia but said he currently spends more time here.

To Honasan's tweet, Paredes replied, "Yes... Soldiers were heroes too. I answered short kasi humingi ng names ung question." He added, "Until you can be honest about yoyr true motives, then I cant believe you... Until yo can tell us why or even admit you launched those coups causing deaths and economic dislocation, wala ka... Sorry but the truth and facts are pesky things you have to live with."

Honasan then Tweeted, "@jimparedes Get elected first, even as brgy. captain. Then let's talk." In the '90s, Paredes ran for barangay captain and lost.

To another Twitter user @daveagbuya who commented that maybe Honasan's previous tweet would end the discussion, Paredes said, "ha ha., I can see your spite, not ur reason. I was happy not to be elected. But proud I ran with good intentions... Do I have to be an elected official to talk to an elected official? That's the very mindset I detest."

Not explicitly addressing Paredes, Honasan later Tweeted, "To all Filipinos, let us not leave our country even if the going gets rough. God bless!"

Not specifically naming Honasan either, Paredes Tweeted, "Nothing wrong to leave our country, learn abroad and come back to apply knowledge. Rizal, Ninoy, Luna did just that... Geography is not the only requirement to be Filipino. 11 million people agree."
