Pacquiao returns to hero’s welcome after latest victory

One week after his latest conquest, Filipino boxing champ and Sarangani Rep. Emmanuel “Manny" Pacquiao returned to a hero’s welcome in the Philippines Saturday.

Pacquiao arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 at 6:35 a.m. on a Philippine Airlines PR-103 flight from Los Angeles.

“Maraming, maraming salamat sa dasal at suporta. Masaya tayong Pilipino at nakapagdala tayo ng karangalan (at) proud tayong mga Pilipino (Thank you very much for your prayers and support. We Filipinos have reason to be happy and proud because our latest victory brought honor to the country)," he told a crowd gathered at the airport to welcome him.

He said his immediate plans include bringing his children to Los Angeles for a vacation, before the new school year starts.

The champ, wearing a light-brown polo, hugged his children, who presented their gifts to him and wife Jinkee.

“Masaya ako naghanda sila for me sa Mother’s Day. Masaya ako na-remember nila ako na-miss nila ako," Jinkee said.

Among others waiting for him at the airport were supporters led by former Manila Mayor Jose Atienza Jr., radio dzBB’s Glen Juego reported.

Fans at the NAIA-2 crowded the arrival area for a glimpse of their idol.

Many of those waiting for him brought placards with “Welcome home" messages.

After his arrival, Pacquiao was to have breakfast at the New World Hotel in Makati City before going to Quiapo Church in Manila for his customary thanksgiving Mass.

He is then to make a courtesy call on President Benigno Aquino III in MalacaƱang.

The champ is then scheduled to proceed to General Santos City where a hero’s welcome has been readied for him.

Last May 8, Pacquiao maintained his winning streak as he defended his welterweight crown against Sugar Shane Mosley, prevailing by unanimous decision.

He wore yellow gloves for his fight, to symbolize Filipinos’ unity especially in the fight against poverty. — LBG/HS, GMA News

Chinese girls born in single body with 2 heads

A hospital in southwestern China says conjoined twin girls with a single body and two heads have been born at its facility.

A staffer surnamed Wang at Suining City Central Hospital in Sichuan province says the girls were born Thursday.

Wang said Tuesday the parents, who are farmers, did not want to have the babies at first, fearing they could not afford to keep them alive. She said they transferred the twins to a hospital in the nearby metropolis of Chongqing to be examined by experts.

The local Huaxi Metropolis Daily reported the twins weighed 9 pounds (4 kilograms) and measured 20 inches (51 centimeters). They have two spines and two esophaguses and share other organs. Doctors were quoted as saying it would be nearly impossible to separate them.

Willie Revillame
will return on television on Saturday, May 14, with a new, refurbished primetime offering.

In a statement sent to Yahoo! OMG! Philippines late Tuesday, May 10, TV5 announced that the show will be titled "Wil Time Bigtime," which will occupy the timeslot of its predecessor, "Willing Willie."

The game show will also have Willie and Valenzuela Councilor Shalani Soledad as the main hosts, the statement said. It did not mention, however, the inclusion of the other hosts in "Willing Willie" in the new show.

"“Wil Time Bigtime is the people’s program. This show is created to entertain them, make them forget their problems even for a while, and possibly realize their dreams," Willie was quoted as saying in the statement.

The statement added that the show will "showcase new games that will utilize an LED (light-emitting diodes) floor and new software technology for a whole new TV experience.

"This brand new approach in local game shows is definitely a visual treat for all Filipinos. While brainstorming for new segments, we're keeping in mind that these new innovations on TV shall be incorporated in all the mechanics of the games to make sure that we offer something new for everyone," said Jay Montelibano, business unit head of "Wil Time Bigtime."

“We’re very optimistic with what the new show has to offer. Wil Time Bigtime becomes TV5’s strongest link to the masses and we’re offering them a whole new TV viewing experience with the technology we’re utilizing in the show,” said Roberto V. Barreiro, TV5 Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

The show will air at 5pm this Saturday and subsequent weeknights at 6:30pm on TV5.

Selena Gomez: I like my boring style

Selena Gomez hasn’t cracked working high fashion on the red carpet yet and prefers to play it safe.

The 18-year-old actress-and-singer revealed that she is still figuring out where her fashion personality lies and likes her “boring” outfit choices.

The gorgeous brunette defended her pretty premiere gowns against fashion criticism that they aren't daring enough.

“I’m growing up and exploring who I am both personally and musically, so it’s a really exciting time,” she told British magazine Look. “I’m 18 but I still feel like a 15-year-old sometimes because I don’t wear out-there clothes, so some people say that the way I dress is boring. I’m like, ‘I like boring!’”

Selena revealed that she admires fellow thespian Gwyneth Paltrow for her charisma and groomed looks.

The movie star is known for following a healthy diet and tough exercise regime – and has the figure to show for it.

“She’s got such a presence and always looks amazing. She’s got an incredible body,” Selena said.

But while the teenager names healthy eater Gwyneth as her idol, she admits that her own diet could be more nutritious.

The Disney star revealed her somewhat unusual breakfast routine and admitted she does worry about its effects.

“I’m not as healthy as I should be. Every morning I have two tacos from a little place near where I live,” she said. “I need to get my diet in check, it’s going to start catching up on me!”

Phil Younghusband admits "exclusively dating" Angel Locsin

Kuwento niya, “The first meeting of me and Angel, I met the family. I came to my own and it was nice.

"I got to meet her dad, her brothers and sisters, and her friends and family.

"It was good. They made it easy for me.” he said.

"Yes, yes. I didnt know what to do. Hindi ko alam anong gagawin," sabi niya.

Matatandaang idinaan ni Phil sa social networking site na Twitter ang pagpapahayag niya ng damdamin para kay Angel.

Noong February 10, 2011 ay kinilig ang buong Twitter world nang imbitahan ng Azkals player ang Kapamilya actress para sa isang date noong Valentine's day. (CLICK HERE to read related story.)

(CLICK HERE to read related story.)

“I wanted to be with Angel in the day and she’s very...one of the kindest people, nicest people you ever meet.

"What she does for charity is amazing and I wanted to be with her on that day,” sabi niya.

Top 10 Pinoy Political Mother-and-Son Tandems

Filipinos love their moms and they love politics. Sure, it's not the same kind of love—but who's to complain when they can emulate their moms and run for office while they're at it? To mark Mother's Day, SPOT.ph thought of coming up with a list with a slight twist—one featuring politician moms and their sons. In most cases, the dads introduced politics into the family and the mom and son just followed suit. In other instances, the moms are political icons in their own right. Do mothers still know best when it comes to politics? Or do the sons have the edge?

CORY & NOYNOY

"Remembering Cory Through the Eyes of Her Only Son" from PhilStar.com

Mom-and-son stats: Corazon Aquino became the country's first female president when she was swept into power in 1986 via the EDSA I Revolution. In 2010, her son Benigno Simeon "Noynoy" Aquino III became the country's first never-been-married male president.

Political verdict: The mom was a reluctant politician-by-accident who was embraced by the world and tagged the "icon of democracy." Arguably, the son was elected president because of his mom's "magic." Right now, though, he is besieged by so many problems and hit by so many critics that he may just as well be known as "the nation's whipping boy."

GLORIA & MIKEY

Saksi report: COMELEC allows Mikey Arroyo to join Ang Galing Pinoy party-list

Mom-and-son stats: Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was the country's president for nine years and is now a congresswoman of Pampanga. Juan Miguel "Mikey" Arroyo is currently a congressman as well, representing security guards and tricycle drivers.

Political verdict: Though they're both equally controversial, the mom handles political complications better than the son. She got through several much-publicized controversies such as "Hello, Garci" and the NBN-ZTE fiasco without embarrassing herself on national TV. Meanwhile, the son's infamous interview with Winnie Monsod became a viral hit—but for all the wrong reasons. The mom is perceived as a crafty strategist, while the son often seems to be considered er, a joke.

IMELDA & BONGBONG

Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s oath taking on June 29, 2010

Mom-and-son stats: Imelda Marcos' most memorable pseudo-political position was as First Lady to former President Ferdinand Marcos from 1965 to 1986. She is now an Ilocos Norte congresswoman. Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr. is a senator.

Political verdict: At the peak of her political power, the mom was in charge of "beautifying" the country. For her, that included having a lot of huge buildings such as the Cultural Center of the Philippines. In any case, the mom's reputation as a rabid haute couture and shoe addict has prevented her from being taken seriously as a politician. The son may have the academic credentials to be a politician—but he does not have his mother's maddening charisma.

LOI & JINGGOY

Senator Jinggoy Estrada in Piddig with his mom Loi Estrada

Mom-and-son stats: Jinggoy Estrada became a politician before Luisa "Loi" Ejercito got into the game. At one point, they were both senators. Now, Jinggoy is still a senator while Loi, a
doctor, quit politics in 2007.

Political verdict: The son eclipses the mom in terms of masa appeal. She may be a physician, but he's played Panday. Plus, the son has gone through a makeover, while the public still remembers the mom's interesting hairstyle.

GUIA & JV

Babae sa Likod ng Trono Documentary by Sandra Aguinaldo

Mom-and-son stats: As part of former President Joseph Estrada's "extended family," Guia Gomez was, for a time, the informal First Lady of San Juan when Estrada served as the city's mayor. Now, Guia is the mayor of San Juan while her son Jose Victor "JV" Ejercito is its congressman.

Political verdict: The mom's patience and low-key style has served her well. She's no longer just the woman behind the man. Now, she calls the shots in her very own political turf. The son seems to be just as low-key—or maybe he just isn't getting as much publicity as his larger-than- life or stranger-than-fiction father.

ELENITA & JUNJUN

Oath taking of Vice President Jejomar Binay as HUDCC Chairman

Mom-and-son stats: Dr. Elenita Binay served as the mayor of Makati from 1998 to 2001. Her
son Jejomar "Junjun" Binay, Jr. now holds the position. Though Elenita's term was repotedly
marred by controversy, that didn't stop people from voting for Junjun.

Political verdict: The real political stalwart in the Binay family is really Vice President Jejomar
Binay. The mom and son have just followed suit. If there's any lesson that the son can learn from
the mom it's this: Listen to daddy.

LANI & JOLO

TV 5's Dokumentado feature on Jolo Revilla on his first day of office as Barangay Captain

Mom-and-son stats: Actress-politician Lani Mercado serves as a Cavite congresswoman, while
Jolo Revilla is a barangay captain in Bacoor, Cavite. They both still dabble in acting every now
and then.

Political verdict: "Charm" seems to be the mom's most effective political tool. Although the
son may not necessarily have it, the mom's sweet vibe may be enough for both of them. Besides,
there's always daddy Bong Revilla, who's a senator. In any case, we commend the son for not
being too ambitious in his first political post.

GLENDA & RUBEN, JR.

Documentary of Hon. Gwendolyn Ecleo, Mayor of Dinagat

Mom-and-son stats: Glenda Ecleo served as the congresswoman of Dinagat Islands, now her controversial son Ruben Ecleo, Jr. is its representative. The Philippine Benevolent Missionaries Association (PBMA)—a "spiritual" organization founded by the late Ruben Ecleo, Sr.—strengthens their political hold over Dinagat Islands. However, Ruben, Jr. is facing expulsion from Congress for graft cases.

Political verdict: Mom and son don't have to try so hard to win elections. The PBMA members
are so loyal to them. Enough said.

NIKKI & JULIAN

Nikki Coseteng exclusive interview posted by YouTube user jhase21

Mom-and-son stats: Anna Dominique "Nikki" Coseteng served as a senator and a congresswoman. Julian is now a Quezon City councilor. It is not clear if Nikki is just taking a break from politics or if she has kissed it goodbye.

Political verdict: The mom and son are pretty tight. In fact, the son recently tried to have his
birth name changed in favor of the mom's last name. As for political clout, these two still have
some—just not in Cory-Noynoy magnitude.

LETTY & RANJIT

Pangasinan 6th District Board Member Ranjit Ramos-Shahani on jueteng issues. Video by The Observer

Mom-and-son stats: Letty Ramos Shahani, sister of former President Fidel Ramos, was a
senator from 1992 to 1998. Ranjit Shahani served as congressman of Pangasinan. Both are no
longer active in politics, but we thought they're a nice blast-from-the-past pair.

Political verdict: Perhaps, both mom and son realized that life in politics was more trouble than
it's worth?
