ABS-CBN chooses to stay mum on a Willie Revillame’s request to be “released” from the network.

“Even prior to the publication of Willie Revillame’s letter to ABS-CBN in the May 21 column of Ricky Lo in The Philippine Star, a meeting has already been scheduled between Willie and ABS-CBN management next week,” Bong Osorio, head of ABS-CBN Corporate Communications, said in a statement.

ABS-CBN stressed that it “chooses not to comment on his letter until after the meeting.”

“ABS-CBN believes that issues are best resolved when discussed with the parties concerned privately before they are made public,” Osorio said.

Osorio was referring to a letter where Revillame was requesting the TV network to “release him” from his contract, the Philippine Entertainment Portal wrote.

Revillame has gone on an indefinite leave after he threatened to resign from the network if the station decides to keep entertainment reporter Jobert Sucaldito. Sucaldito who also happens to be an ABS-CBN talent, has been very critical of Revillame.

Revillame eventually had enough, declaring through his show Wowowee that he will leave the TV network if they don’t fire Sucaldito.

Two weeks after he left, ABS-CBN has asked actor Robin Padilla to temporarily replace Revillame in the show.

Kris: Sacrifice for Noynoy

Kris Aquino says she has decided to make a sacrifice for brother Noynoy’s sake.

To apparently avoid the risk of further fanning fires of controversy into her brother’s (seemingly forthcoming) presidency, Kris sees hosting show biz talk shows or news programs would not be appropriate throughout the duration of Noynoy’s term.

Kris announced on May 18 that she will leave “The Buzz” and “SNN: Showbiz News Ngayon.” Her decision, she said came out from a lengthy talk with sisters Ballsy Aquino-Cruz, Pinky Aquino-Arboleda, and Viel Aquino-Dee on Sunday.

“Napagpasyahan po namin na for the duration of Noy’s presidency, magpapaalam po ako sa aking mga shows that can cause controversy for him,” Kris said on SNN on Tuesday.

According to Kris, her last appearance on SNN will happen on June 25, while her farewell from “The Buzz” will take place on June 27.

Kris, however, noted that her decision was not in any way influenced by her brother. “In fairness po kay Noynoy, hindi naman niya ito in-impose,” she said.

But the TV host-actress will not totally leave showbiz as she remains one of the characters in the TV drama “Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo,” which will continue to run until August.

Kris also mentioned that she will be part of a still unnamed project with ABS-CBN.

This decision did not happen out of the blue. Tt comes in the wake of controversies that involved Kris during the campaign period, controversies which ultimately dragged her brother in the fray. The most prominent intrigue was the spat with erstwhile “The Buzz” co-host Ruffa Gutierrez in which Gutierrez’s mom Annabelle Rama not only unleashed a lengthy verbal tirade against Kris, but also the possible presidency of Noynoy, which she referred to as a death knell of the industry.

It was all rooted from Kris’ remark about Ruffa’s leaving “The Buzz” for TV5’s “Paparazzi,” a show that is now competing against their program. Her comment led to Ruffa’s much talked about walkout. Rama made the tirade in The Buzz’s rival program “Showbiz Central.”

“It is a choice, a sacrifice I’m making, kasi napakahirap po na any comment I make can be misinterpreted,” Kris said about her decision. “Kawawa naman po ang kapatid kong si Noynoy kung dahil nagpaka-taklita ako, e, siya po ang magiging tagasagot pa. E, opinyon ko naman yon.”

Kris said her action is proof of her love for her brother. “I’m giving that to Noy. I want Noy to succeed because I gave it my entire life to help him win,” Kris added.

Robin Padilla draws flak over hosting job

MANILA, Philippines - Action star Robin Padilla on Tuesday defended himself from some viewers who disapprove of him as Willie Revillame’s replacement on “Wowowee.”

Padilla took over the job of Revillame on Saturday after the latter took a leave of absence two weeks ago. Revillame has threatened to resign if the bosses of ABS-CBN refused to kick Jobert Sucaldito out of the network.

In Tuesday’s episode of “Wowowee,” Padilla disclosed that many people are not pleased with him hosting the popular noontime show. The action star even apologized to them, but he stressed that he is merely trying to help out.

"Gusto ko lang ipaalam sa lahat ng ating mga kababayan sa buong mundo na ako ay nandito dahil sa ugali nating Filipino na bayanihan. Tumutulong lang ako upang ang programang ito ay manatili na nasa inyo at nagpapaligaya," Padilla explained.

He also reminded them that his stint as a “Wowowee” host is only temporary.

"Alam ninyo po ako ay nandito sa ‘Wowowee’ hindi bilang isang nagta-trabaho, kung hindi ako panandalian lamang,” he said.

Padilla is still learning the ropes of hosting. He gets a lot of help from his female co-hosts, particularly Pokwang, Mariel Rodriguez and Valerie Concepcion.

About Me

Roach on Pacquiao-Mayweather: “It’s going to happen”

By Izah Morales, Yahoo! Southeast Asia Thursday May 6, 2010 12:13 pm PHT

Boxing fans who have been salivating for megafight matchup between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. will finally be able to stop their clamoring.

"Yeah, it's going to happen," said Pacquiao coach Freddie Roach in an interview at Sports Radio 790 The Zone, an ESPN affiliate radio station. He also confirmed "they are willing to meet halfway and will definitely make the blood test after the fight."

Roach has yet to announce when the fight is going to happen. "I just talked to Bob Arum and he is flying to the Philippines the soonest possible time to make Manny the offer and we are trying to make this work as best as we can."

The megafight between the two boxers who both claimed to be the Best "Pound For Pound" Boxer was supposed to take place last March 13.

However, negotiations failed because Mayweather's camp insisted that Pacquiao undergo pre-fight drug and blood testing outside of the Las Vegas boxing commission's schedule. Pacquiao's camp refused to have Mayweather arbitrarily dictate the testing dates.

Instead of a Pacquaio-Mayweather matchup the Pacman fought Ghanian boxer Joshua Clottey on March 13, and Mayweather went on to fight – and defeat – Shane Mosley on May 1.

In a response quoted at ESPN.com, Pacquiao said: "I do not want anyone having an unfair advantage where someone may get hurt. I am willing to do my part to help this sport out." The boxer is currently in the final days of his congressional campaign.

Roach believes Pacquiao would definitely finish off Mayweather. "If Pacquiao catches [Mayweather], he will finish him," said Roach, who assured that he will come up with a perfect game plan.

But the coach is not underestimating Mayweather. "One thing about Mayweather," Roach said a GMAnews.tv report, "he is very good at what he does. He's very clever. He sees well."
