MANILA, Philippines - Action star Robin Padilla on Tuesday defended himself from some viewers who disapprove of him as Willie Revillame’s replacement on “Wowowee.”

Padilla took over the job of Revillame on Saturday after the latter took a leave of absence two weeks ago. Revillame has threatened to resign if the bosses of ABS-CBN refused to kick Jobert Sucaldito out of the network.

In Tuesday’s episode of “Wowowee,” Padilla disclosed that many people are not pleased with him hosting the popular noontime show. The action star even apologized to them, but he stressed that he is merely trying to help out.

"Gusto ko lang ipaalam sa lahat ng ating mga kababayan sa buong mundo na ako ay nandito dahil sa ugali nating Filipino na bayanihan. Tumutulong lang ako upang ang programang ito ay manatili na nasa inyo at nagpapaligaya," Padilla explained.

He also reminded them that his stint as a “Wowowee” host is only temporary.

"Alam ninyo po ako ay nandito sa ‘Wowowee’ hindi bilang isang nagta-trabaho, kung hindi ako panandalian lamang,” he said.

Padilla is still learning the ropes of hosting. He gets a lot of help from his female co-hosts, particularly Pokwang, Mariel Rodriguez and Valerie Concepcion.

Personal Profile-

About Me

Roach on Pacquiao-Mayweather: “It’s going to happen”

By Izah Morales, Yahoo! Southeast Asia Thursday May 6, 2010 12:13 pm PHT

Boxing fans who have been salivating for megafight matchup between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. will finally be able to stop their clamoring.

"Yeah, it's going to happen," said Pacquiao coach Freddie Roach in an interview at Sports Radio 790 The Zone, an ESPN affiliate radio station. He also confirmed "they are willing to meet halfway and will definitely make the blood test after the fight."

Roach has yet to announce when the fight is going to happen. "I just talked to Bob Arum and he is flying to the Philippines the soonest possible time to make Manny the offer and we are trying to make this work as best as we can."

The megafight between the two boxers who both claimed to be the Best "Pound For Pound" Boxer was supposed to take place last March 13.

However, negotiations failed because Mayweather's camp insisted that Pacquiao undergo pre-fight drug and blood testing outside of the Las Vegas boxing commission's schedule. Pacquiao's camp refused to have Mayweather arbitrarily dictate the testing dates.

Instead of a Pacquaio-Mayweather matchup the Pacman fought Ghanian boxer Joshua Clottey on March 13, and Mayweather went on to fight – and defeat – Shane Mosley on May 1.

In a response quoted at ESPN.com, Pacquiao said: "I do not want anyone having an unfair advantage where someone may get hurt. I am willing to do my part to help this sport out." The boxer is currently in the final days of his congressional campaign.

Roach believes Pacquiao would definitely finish off Mayweather. "If Pacquiao catches [Mayweather], he will finish him," said Roach, who assured that he will come up with a perfect game plan.

But the coach is not underestimating Mayweather. "One thing about Mayweather," Roach said a GMAnews.tv report, "he is very good at what he does. He's very clever. He sees well."

Kris to Pacquiao: Unlike you, Noynoy undefeated in polls

Kris to Pacquiao: Unlike you, Noynoy undefeated in polls

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – In an apparent jab at Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao, actress-TV host Kris Aquino said her brother Sen. Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III has an undefeated record in politics, while the "Pinoy sports icon" still has to prove that people want him in public office.

The actress, who is actively campaigning for her brother, said in her Twitter account that she has seen the TV endorsement of a “Pinoy sports icon” indirectly claiming her brother has not proven his real worth in politics.

Kris was referring to Pacquiao, who is endorsing Aquino’s rival, Sen. Manny Villar of the Nacionalista Party.

In the ad, which showed him together with actors Dolphy and Willie Revillame, Pacquiao said: "Merong iba d'yan, laban ng laban sa salita pero wala pa namang nagawa."

In response, Kris Tweeted on Thursday: “In politics, Noy has won 3 straight terms sa Congress and won almost 15 million votes sa senatorial [race] in 2007."

“How sad na he didn't think na in politics, knock out nga s’ya,” she added.

Kris was referring to Pacquiao’s failed first attempt in politics, when he ran against Darlene Antonino-Custodio for a congressional seat in South Cotabato in May 2007.

Kris also said that unlike the “sports icon,” her brother has already proven that voters want him as a public servant by winning all the elections he has entered.

“In politics, si Noy ang may napatunayan because Noy has never lost an election! Ika nga, undefeated ang record n'ya,” said the actress.

Pacquiao, who is running against Roy Chiongbian, who, like Antonino-Custodio, comes from an influential political family, shrugged off Kris’ comment.

“Hindi kami nang-aaway ng ibang kandidato, kasi kung mang-aaway ka, maganda ang intensyon mo tapos mag-aaway ka, hindi magandang halimbawa [iyan],” he said.

Despite Kris' statement, Pacquiao said he still considers the actress a friend.

The boxing superstar added that he is confident he will win this time around.

“Panatag ako na mananalo,” he said. -- With a report from Anne Santos, ABS-CBN SOKSARGEN.

Pacquiao: Mayweather fight a big possibility

Pacquiao: Mayweather fight a big possibility

MANILA, Philippines – International boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao said it is still possible for him to face former pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. if they both come out victorious in their respective battles, one outside the ring and the other inside the ring, in May.

“There’s that big possibility,” said Pacquiao in a report posted on Bloomberg.com.

Pacquiao is facing Roy Chiongbian for the lone congressional seat in Sarangani Province on May 10 while Mayweather will fight Shane Mosley on May 1.

The Filipino boxer, who recently retained his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title by defeating Joshua Clottey, said he wants to fight Mayweather before he retires.

Pacquiao, however, admitted that he still has to convince his family, especially his mother Dionisia Pacquiao, to allow him to fight.

“My mother wants me to retire from boxing; it’s 50-50 at this point… I will discuss this with the entire family,” he said.

Mayweather to insist blood test

However, if both boxers succeed in their separate challenges, Mayweather is expected to insist on Olympic-style drug testing before he fights Pacquiao.

“All I'm saying, if you're a clean athlete, take your test. That's all I'm saying. That's all I've got to say. If you're a clean athlete, take the test,” he said in a report by PhilBoxing.com’s Ronnie Nathanielsz.

This was the same demand by Mayweather months ago that led to the collapse of negotiations with Pacquiao.

Mayweather’s camp demanded the tests be conducted up to 14 days before the planned May 1 bout.

Pacquiao agreed to the random drug tests and offered a 24 day cut-off and a test immediately after the fight, which the American boxer rejected, resulting in the collapse of the negotiations.
